More Desirable than Gold

I’ve been reading through the Psalms and just read Psalm 19.  This Psalm contains a description of Yahweh’s commandments that is worth posting.  Mom and Dad learned a song in their college years that was this Psalm put to music.  Since coming to a new understanding regarding the relevance of Yah’s Torah to us as believers in Yahshua, this Psalm has become all the more meaningful to our family (please see the About page for more information).

Psalm 19:7-11 — “The law of YHWH is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of YHWH is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of YHWH are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of YHWH is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of YHWH is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of YHWH are true; they are righteous altogether. 10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. 11 Moreover, by them Your servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward.”

Wow!  That’s a loaded 5 verses.  I encourage you to pause, re-read, and let each verse sink in.  I love the heart of the psalmist (David) that can be seen through this Psalm — a heart that deeply loves Yah’s precepts, seeing them as a blessing be more desired than gold.  This blessing can be difficult to perceive at times due to the distractions and temptations we are continually confronted with, but I have found that the more I seek His ways, the more I realize their supreme worth.  May our Heavenly Father grant us open eyes to see the blessing and excellence of His commandments!

I’ll conclude with a verse just three verses down from where we left off.

Pslam 19:14 — “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O YHWH, my rock and my Redeemer.”

May we apply our hearts to direct our words and thoughts in ways that are pleasing to Him, our Rock and Redeemer.  May His Holy Spirit restore our souls through continual washing in His perfect law.  May we be made wise through His sure testimonies.  May our hearts rejoice at His precepts.  May the Holy Spirit enlighten our eyes through His pure commandments.  May our hearts be well-rooted in the enduring and clean fear of YHWH.  May we seek to walk ever-more faithfully in His true and altogether-righteous judgements.  May we desire His ways more than much fine gold and enjoy their sweetness more than the drippings of the honeycomb.
