While driving home from campus last month, I was listening to the Alisa Childers Podcast #70 — “Learning to Read and Love the Bible, with Tara-Leigh Cobble.” In this episode, Alisa Childers interviews Tara-Leigh Cobble, the founder of D-Group and host of the Bible Recap podcast. The Bible Recap consists of short episodes (usually 7-10 minutes) that walk you through a chronological Bible-reading plan originally created by Blue Letter Bible. If tackled seven days a week, this plan takes you through the whole Bible in one year.
I was inspired by Tara-Leigh’s love for the Scriptures and her emphasis on looking for the character of God in His word. A few weeks ago, I decided to start making my way through the New Testament using the chronological plan along with the Bible Recap podcast (although I’m giving myself a “grace” day each week). I will note that I differ with Tara-Leigh’s conclusions on certain points, particularly as relate to the relevance of God’s Old Testament law to believers’ lives today (see the About page). However, I think she generally does a good job providing context and bringing some rich insights to the table.
Whereas a canonical reading of the Bible takes you through book-by-book, a chronological reading takes you through in the order events happened (or likely happened). As such, this reading plan frequently has you jump between books. The exact timeline for when certain events happened is not always clear, so the chronology laid out by Blue Letter Bible is not necessarily perfect. Nevertheless, I believe this plan is a valuable tool for gaining a better grasp of how the Bible fits together as a whole.
If this interests you, I highly recommend listening to the Alisa Childers podcast referenced in this post, as it provides a good introduction. I’ve also provided links to the Bible Recap website and chronological reading plan PDFs.
Blessings and Shalom!

Yep! I’m currently working through this plan and listening to the podcasts, getting a lot out of it. Thanks, Jonathan, for introducing me to it. 🙂
